What Cocoa asks of a post
Airspace. Cocoa has no towered airport of its own. Merritt Island Airport across the river is non-towered, Space Coast Regional is up in Titusville, and the Cape's restricted airspace starts north of the Beachline on the barrier island. Most of the city is therefore uncontrolled airspace under 400 feet, which is unusual for Brevard. It does not mean unrestricted: Florida's drone privacy statute still governs what can be imaged, and we still walk the parcel before we quote.
Storm season. Cocoa's exposure is the river. The Indian River shoreline along the village and Riverside Drive takes surge and wind-driven water when a storm comes up the lagoon, while the city west of US-1 mostly takes wind and outages. A pre-storm plan for a riverfront property looks different from one for a warehouse on Clearlake Road, and the post-storm check runs in that order.
The corridor. SR 520 is the road that matters: it comes off I-95 at exit 201, runs through the city and becomes the causeway to Merritt Island and the beach. US-1 crosses it and carries the older industrial and warehouse frontage north and south of the junction. A construction or industrial post here usually sits on one of those two roads, with traffic on one side and a rail line or a canal on the other.
The village. Cocoa Village is the county's oldest working downtown, and it runs a real calendar of street festivals, markets and riverfront concerts. Event posts in the village are short, dense and pedestrian, with credentialing at a handful of closures rather than a gate line. Because the village is a ten-minute drive from dispatch, it is where a same-day request is most likely to be met.

Are you actually based in Cocoa?
No. Our office is on Merritt Island at 137 S Courtenay Pkwy, on the other end of the SR 520 causeway, about four miles east. Cocoa is the closest mainland city to dispatch and the roster treats it that way.
How fast can you put an officer on a Cocoa property?
Standard lead time is 72 hours for a scheduled post. Same-day callout for one to three officers is often possible, and Cocoa's proximity to dispatch helps, but it depends on the live roster and is confirmed by phone rather than through a form.
Do you cover the industrial side of the city or just the village?
Both. The US-1 and SR 524 frontage is where the overnight construction and warehouse posts are; the village is where the event details are. They are staffed from the same roster with different post orders.
Can you fly drones over a Cocoa property?
Usually, and with less paperwork than most of the county: there is no towered field over Cocoa, so most parcels need no LAANC authorization. Florida's drone privacy statute still restricts imaging of neighbouring private property, and the owner's consent is recorded in the flight log before the first flight.
