Before you call
Armed or unarmed?
Unarmed, Class D, for most fixed posts. Armed, Class G, where cash, controlled inventory or a history of confrontation justifies it. We will tell you which one you are.
What does the officer wear?
TESS uniform by default, identifiable from across a parking lot. A soft uniform, polo and slacks with no duty belt, is available for front-of-house posts where a tactical look is wrong for the room. Plainclothes is a different service; see private security.
Can the post run overnight or around the clock?
Yes. A 24-hour post is two officers on rotating 12-hour shifts, and the dispatch read above does the arithmetic. Overnight posts are billed as a standing post, not as patrol.
Do you write the post orders?
With you, after a walk-through: who is allowed in, what gets logged, who the officer calls and in what order. The officer works to that document and you hold a copy of it.
