The north end of Merritt Island is Kennedy Space Center and the national wildlife refuge, and the federal government has drawn a national-security flight restriction over the Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station that no waiver from us unlocks. South of that line the island is mostly uncontrolled airspace, with Merritt Island Airport at the south end a non-towered field. So aerial coverage is a straightforward answer on a Courtenay Parkway parcel and a hard no on anything with a NASA address.
Storm season. An island between two lagoons is in the county's early evacuation zones, and the causeways that make it convenient in fair weather are what close first in a storm. Pre-storm work here is a securing job done a day before the mainland's, and the ride-out post has to be planned around the bridges, not just the building. After the storm, the same bridges decide when a property can be checked.
The corridor. SR 520 runs east-west across the island from the Cocoa causeway to the Cocoa Beach causeway, and Courtenay Parkway runs north-south through the middle of it; the junction of the two is the commercial centre and it is where our office is. Retail, medical offices and apartment complexes crowd the junction, residential streets run to the water on both sides. On launch mornings the parkway northbound to the Center fills, and a scheduled relief that crosses it leaves early.
Home ground. This is the roster's home.
