Can you fly here?
Much of the Space Coast sits in controlled or restricted airspace: the Cape, Patrick Space Force Base, and the towered fields at Melbourne and Titusville. Where LAANC authorization applies we file for it as part of the lead time; where the airspace is closed, we say so. Under 400 feet, over the property we are engaged to protect, is the usual answer.
Is this legal in Florida?
Yes, under FAA Part 107 and within Florida's drone privacy statute, F.S. § 934.50, which limits imaging of private property without consent. We fly over property we are engaged to protect, with the owner's authorization recorded in the flight log.
Does the drone replace the officer?
No. It extends one. A crew sweeps a fence line in minutes that takes an officer an hour, and the officer is who responds to what the crew sees.
Are you insured to fly?
Ask for the certificate. UAS liability is a separate policy from general liability, and a carrier or a venue is right to ask for it before the first flight.
